Joao Cancelo may be too expensive to make his loan move permanent any time soon, Bayern Munich captain Hasan Salihamidzic admits… following his move from Manchester City to the German giants.

  • Bayern’s sporting director believes the price may be too expensive to cover

Bayern Munich’s sporting director has admitted that Joao Cancelo may be too expensive for the German giants to secure his services permanently.

Cancelo moved from Manchester City to Bayern on deadline day, on loan until the end of the current season – with an option to buy for €70m (£62.8m).

However, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said it may be too much financially for the Portuguese wing-back to join the club on a long-term deal.

Via Get German Football News, Salihamidzic told Bild: “We are playing with open cards. Most importantly, Joao is comfortable in Munich and can feature in the second round.

“But we also told him clearly that this amount is difficult to imagine in the coming years.”

There is hope they can lower Man City’s asking price, which would allow them to retain the services of a player Salihamidzic and Bayern highly rated for years before his arrival at the Allianz Arena.

The 46-year-old Bosnian said: “But I also learned: If all sides absolutely want a common solution, you can also manage it in the end. He knows he is one of our dream players for years.’

In midweek, Cancelo featured for 71 minutes in Bayern’s 4-0 cup win at Mainz, setting up Erik Maxime Tschuppo-Motting’s first goal.

He is set to make his Bundesliga debut when they travel to Wolfsburg on Sunday, with Bayern looking to climb back to the top of the table after overcoming Union Berlin.

During his move to the German giants, Cancelo insisted his departure from Manchester City had nothing to do with a reported on-field clash with Citizens manager Pep Guardiola.
