Kieran Gibbs terminates contract with Inter Miami to begin broadcasting role at club

Kieran Gibbs is out of contract with Inter Miami and is set to start a transfer role with the club… but the 33-year-old former Arsenal defender is not officially announcing his retirement

Long-time English soccer star Kieran Gibbs has mutually terminated his contract with Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, while it was also announced that he will take on a new role covering the club’s Apple TV.

Gibbs will host “The Inter Miami Show” and other key pieces of content in Inter Miami’s Club Room available on Apple TV, while also taking on a role as a play-by-play commentator and joining its current talent Apple TV, Chris Whittyngham.

“I am delighted to have moved into this exciting new role as Inter Miami’s on-air talent and look forward to this great opportunity to share my experience and knowledge of the club through the amazing content that will be available on Apple TV” , Gibbs said in a press release.

The announcement gave no word on Gibbs’ official retirement, but it appears the move to a TV role will mark the end of the 33-year-old Gibbs’ career.

Gibbs originally joined Inter Miami halfway through the 2021 season after making over 300 combined appearances during his time in England.

He is best known for his time at Arsenal where he made 229 appearances in all competitions.

While playing for the Gunners he won the FA Cup on three consecutive occasions – lifting the trophy at the end of the 2013/2014, 2014/2015 and 2016/2017 seasons.

After moving from Arsenal, he made a total of 100 appearances for West Brom and also spent a season on loan at Norwich during his time in England.

Gibbs also made 10 England caps during his career.

He never featured as a starter every week after moving to Miami, which often played homegrown players Noah Allen and Christopher McVey at fullback last year.

They also signed veteran Argentine left-back Franco Negri to add depth to the position.

For now, Gibbs is still listed as an active member of the Inter Miami roster on the team’s official website.
